About Gheri
Gheri material is made from 100% cotton. It is strong and long wearing and is best known for its beautiful unique patterns. Its made with the backstrap weaving method in which the artisan is attached to the loom with a backstrap. That way it can be either portable or attached to an object for more tension.
Gheri weaving is a traditional artisan skill of the rural women from the hills of Nepal and is known as one of the oldest weaving styles in the world.
The Wonders of Hemp
Hemp is a quick growing hemp that can take as little as 100 days to harvest. It takes a lot less water than cotton and is naturally resistant to most pests. Hemp grows densely which enables it to outcompete with weeds.
Hemp fabric is made from the stalk of the plant. The long strands of fibres are separated from the bark through a process called “retting.” These fibres are then spun together to produce a continuous thread that can be woven into a fabric.
